Driver Education consists of two parts:
  1. the classroom sessions - scheduled during the regular school day
  2. the practice driving sessions - mostly scheduled for after-school driving.
ATTENDANCE FOR BOTH THE CLASSROOM and DRIVING ARE VERY STRICT and ARE MANDATED BY THE STATE EDUCATION DEPARTMENT.

The course objectives are:
(1) to help students become better and safer drivers
(2) to help form good driving attitudes and to share the road safely
(3) to help students understand motor vehicle registrations, traffic laws and the rules of the road
(4) to help increase their skills to be safer drivers and to prepare them for the NYS Driving Road Test

A NYS Driving Permit or License is required to take the course; exceptions must be approved by the instructor prior to the beginning of the course.
Some students may receive a lower insurance premium on successfully completing the course. Also, at the completion of the course, students will not have to take the 5-hour safe driving course that is necessary for signing up for a NYS road test.

Student Conduct:

Behavior and attitude are a big part of driver education in both the classroom and in the car. Expecially in the car, lives are put at risk when students do not follow the rules of the road or follow teacher instructions. There are consequences if a student chooses to misbehave or be uncooperative, and these are found in the forms sent home to parents. After 3 incidents in the classroom the student will be asked to leave, which will count as an absence, and will have a referral written up on him/her. With driving, the student has only one chance of misconduct, then at the discretion of the driving instructor, the student will no longer be in driver education.
