To the Windsor High School Community Members:
As we begin the 4th marking period, let's not lose sight of the prize. The prize in this case is learning. We at the high school are into our second year becoming a Professional Learning Community. We believe the key word here is learning. Learning by all! If a student does not "get" a certain topic the first time around, this student will have opportunities in which he/she can receive extra help. We want all of our students to succeed.
Now that the weather has changed and it is finally nice outside, I would like to address a couple of other issues. One that directly relates to learning (or lack thereof) is attendance. "Senioritis" does not only affect seniors. All students get affected by the weather. "It's nice outside...it would be nicer to be outside rather than in school...I think I'll skip this afternoon." This is the time when we really need to focus. We only have 8 weeks or so of instruction. I urge parents to remind their sons/daughters to attend all classes on a regular basis. I also urge students to stay the course for a little while longer. Don't mess up in the last 10 weeks what you have built over the first 30 weeks!
Finally, also having to do with nice weather is the issue of appropriate school attire. Tube tops, blouses with spaghetti straps and bare midriffs are some of the things I would like you to be aware of during the months of May and June. In our Student Handbook, we actually discuss student dress stating, "...extremely brief garments including but not limited to short shorts, tube tops, net tops, halter tops, spaghetti straps, plunging neckline (front and back), and see-through garments" will not be tolerated. We have a supply of t-shirts that students will be requested to put on if an article of clothing is deemed inappropriate by administration.
We certainly do not mean to be harsh in our response to this issue, but student dress can be a distracting presence in the school house. Please help us make the final weeks of the 2007-08 school year successful in every way possible. As always, I thank you for your assistance.
