Contest Information
In the spring of 2009, the New York State Association of Traffic Safety Boards conducted a public service announcement contest for all 9 – 12 graders in New York State.  The purpose of the contest is to identify five radio spots that will persuade teens to make life-saving choices to prevent injuries and deaths due to car crashes.  Entries consisted of a 30 second PSA and could be on the topic of either drowsy driving, safety belt use, driving distractions, impaired driving or speeding/aggressive driving.

This year’s contest sponsors included the New York Station Association of Traffic Safety Boards, AAA New York State, the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee, the New York Station Sheriff’s Association and the New York State Association of Chiefs of Police.

It is my pleasure to announce for the first time since this contest’s inception winners from Broome County!  Congratulations to Rachael La Mantia and Jeri Smith from Windsor High School who submitted a PSA on driving distractions.  This team will receive a monetary award of $200.  Rachael and Jeri are both students of Mrs. Wardell who teaches business and computer skills and who utilized this contest as a class assignment.
